Corine’s Story

2020 MCSCI Child Ambassador

Hello, my name is Corine, and I have Sickle Cell SS. I was born on August 22, 2009 in Indianapolis IN. I grew up in a big family with my 4 brothers, 1 sister, parents, and my grandma. My brother, Sekou has Sickle Cell SS too. Together we are a team. I also speak French.

Some of my favorite things to do are, play Roblox, go on Tiktok, YouTube, and socialize with my friends. Some of my hobbies are dancing, makeup, baking and cooking.

I want to be a Sickle Cell Youth Ambassador, so I can help people better understand Sickle Cell Disease. When I was little, I would have lots of pain crises and I would be in the hospital month after month. My doctor, Dr. Rampersad, my health educator Mrs. Kisha Hampton, and The Martin Center staff have helped me better understand Sickle Cell Disease and how to treat it, so I am not in the hospital as much.

I truly appreciate everything Martin Center does for people like me. I enjoy the food pantry, Gatorade program, Monthly Support Group Meetings. There are so many things that The Martin Center has provided for me and my family especially the education resources. My family and I are so appreciative. Therefore, I want to return the favor by becoming the 2021 Sickle Cell Ambassador. I am truly honored for the opportunity. I am excited and looking forward to being a voice for The Sickle Cell Community, especially kids.

Sincerely,
Corine Dolley
