History
Dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and St. Martin dePorres, the Martin Center was founded in 1969 by Reverend Boniface Hardin, O.S.B., for the purpose of combating oppression, particularly racism. In 1977, Martin Center College (presently Martin University) was founded. In 1989, Rev. Hardin stepped down as Executive Director to take on full time responsibilities at the University now located on Avondale Place. Although very similar in their beliefs and dedication to the community, this marked the final step in creating an independent relationship between Martin Center, Inc. and Martin University. Ms. Susie Davie serves as the current Executive Director.
