Ashae’s Story

2022 MCSCI Child Ambassador

My name is Ashae Villafana. I am 10 years old. I was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disease one week after I was born. My mom and I are a team. It’s because of her that I am who I am.

One of my favorite things to do is any type of science experiment. I also love doing Tik-Tok dances and composing skits for my YouTube channel. I am hoping to become a YouTube star one day. In my spare time, I will visit the playground or I might have a couple of weekend sleepovers with my friends.

The doctors at Riley Hospital for Children referred me and my mom to MCSCI. They have been a great help to us. The staff at MCSCI is very patient and kind. With the help and all of the knowledge obtained about Sickle Cell Disease from MCSCI and my doctors, I have learned so much about how the disease affects my body and how to treat it. As a result, I am not in the hospital as much as I used to be. I am grateful to MCSCI and the opportunity to serve as its 2022 Youth Ambassador!

Sincerely,
Ashae Villafana
